After fifteen years as a professional luthier, I went back to my first love of electric guitars, and challenged myself to create the single-cut electric I had always wanted. A guitar that would be a true soulmate with those iconic guitars from the 1950’s – without being a blindly replicated copy. I didn’t want to copy anything. Instead, I wanted to discover that magical spirit, and go with my intuition from there on.

The Unicorn was finally born in 2009. Emma and I filmed the whole journey of the creation process – you can still find this massive 17-episode Video Diary online.
The Unicorn sums up my career in so many ways. This guitar celebrates all that is great and admirable about tradition, and at the same time reminds us that not everything about tradition is great at all.
What’s great about a headstock joint that snaps broken all too easily? No – sometimes the old school approach is just plain simple lazy. That’s why I combed through and redesigned all those elemental details that I saw were poorly done before.
