Violets Are Blue… aren’t they?

This Satin Viola coloured Aeon Classic is one of the first Valvebucker Mk2 powered guitars ever made. It is featured in our press releases and a number of demos, including the one you can watch on this page – scroll down!

The first guitar with this very specific Viola colour was custom made for Ruben Roeh from Germany. He sent me a photograph of viola flowers and specified he wants a solid paint and it has to be exactly the right shade, somewhere on the spectrum between violet and blue. I explained Ruben the challenge: In order to be absolutely sure we are on the same page on the shade of the colour, we can’t rely on a photograph – do I see the same colour on my screen as he does – does the solid paint I choose interpret in Ruben’s eyes the same way I see it, compared to the photograph we’re staring at from a backlit phone or computer screen?

I told Ruben that he needs to put away the screens and pay a visit to a well equipped automotive paint supplier and look at the actual colours. Stare at them indoors, in the artificial light – take the samples outdoors and look at them in sunlight and in shadow – calibrate your brain by closing your eyes for a moment – go grab a cup of coffee – and then go back to your viola. Stare at it long enough so you feel confident at making the choice – and when you’re ready, send me the colour code!

That’s how the Viola colour came to be. By the time we got Ruben’s guitar ready we had already fallen in love with the colour and I decided to add it to our official Guitar Creator colour selection as well! The opportunity to make another Viola coloured guitar (with a matching floor unit!) showed itself when selecting the specifications to our Valvebucker Mk2 premiere collection – the Viola complenting perfectly the warm orange glow of the vacuum tubes!

With the demos, photo sessions and guitar show premiere for the Mk2 now all done, the guitar is available to purchase. The guitar will be sold as a demo instrument, even if in superb condition.
